Community Pharmacies in Taiwan build the bridge of trust amid the COVID-19 outbreak

Starting early in 2020, Taiwan’s epidemic response to the COVID-19 outbreak has been highly acknowledged. By strengthening border control and self-protective measures, people in Taiwan join hands in combating COVID-19 has become the talk of town. Community pharmacies have been unsung heroes in the nation’s fight against the pandemic when they play the role in the provision of anti-epidemic products, anti-epidemic knowledge, medicine home delivery and Telepharmacy services, and ensure that medicines can be used effectively and safely.

With the potential of outbreak COVID-19 at the beginning of 2020, community pharmacies were enlisted to assist in the mask-rationing plan and ensured masks were fairly and equally distributed to citizens across the country. Additionally, community pharmacies offered medicine home delivery service for patients with chronic diseases during their home isolation or quarantine and for patients with disabilities. Community pharmacies also provided medication instructions and pharmaceutical care via phone calls or video calls and promote drug safety on virtual platforms to make the patients use the drugs effectively and safely.

The COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet, and the world is still challenged by variants of the virus. Nevertheless, defending in the front line of COVID-19 pandemic and continuing delivering pharmaceutical services, community pharmacies become one of the most trusted healthcare professionals.
