I. The competent authority: Department of Health (DOH), Executive Yuan.
II. Basis for the enactment: Paragraph 2 of article 17-1 of Act Governing Food Sanitation.
III. Applicable categories (items) of foods: All food meals containing beef and edible cattle offals for food vending locations.
IV. Announcement of ‘Regulations Governing the Labeling of Country of Origin of Beef and Edible Cattle Offals for Food Vending Locations’ ( regulations shall be taking into force from September 12, 2012)
(1) All food meals that contain beef and edible cattle offals shall be labeled with country of origin of the beef or edible cattle offals or letters with the same meaning.
(2) Beef and cattle edible offals do not include milk and fat.
(3) The country of origin shall be the country of slaughter for beef and cattle edible offals.
(4) Methods of labeling must clearly indicate country of origin in Chinese. Card, mark (label), menu or notice board are permitted options for selecting either posting, hanging, erecting (inserting), sticking or other ways that can be clearly identified.
