To prevent illegal medical devices from entering the market and to ensure public safety, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) continues to strengthen the oversight and management of online sales. The TFDA adopts a dual enforcement approach that includes proactive inspections and the handling of public complaints. Through strict checks on non-compliant medical devices, the TFDA aims to block the circulation of illegal products.
The TFDA actively addresses suspected cases of illegal medical device sales on major e-commerce platforms. E-commerce operators are required to continuously reinforce their self-management mechanisms, including keyword settings, product listings, and regularly inspecting sales pages. These measures help prevent the posting of unlicensed medical devices or those with exaggerated therapeutic claims. Meanwhile, regarding violations on online platforms reported by the public, the TFDA has promptly investigated and ordered their removal to enhance the legality and safety of the overall sales environment.
The TFDA urges consumers to recognize legitimate sales channels and to verify the medical device license number when purchasing medical devices online, thereby avoiding health risks from products of unknown origin. The TFDA will continue to implement supervisory management, reinforce platform responsibilities, improve public identification capabilities, and deepen public-private collaboration to create a safe, trustworthy online medical device shopping environment that protects public health.
